Flowers for Valentine’s Day
Share
It’s Valentine’s Day — I hope you had a lovely day today.
To be honest, until I came to Malaysia, I never really associated Valentine’s Day with flowers. That’s because in Japan, Valentine’s is all about chocolate. And interestingly, it’s usually women who give chocolates to men.

It’s often seen as the one day of the year when girls gather their courage to confess their feelings. I definitely have a few sweet (and slightly embarrassing!) memories from my school days — but I’ll keep those to myself for now.
Then I moved to Malaysia and married into a flower farming family…
And wow — Valentine’s season here is incredibly busy! I remember thinking how romantic it was that flowers were such a big part of the celebration. It seems like men giving flowers to women is more common here, though of course it’s really a day for anyone who cares about someone special.
It’s fascinating how the same holiday can feel so different depending on the country.
As for flowers, red roses are definitely the classic choice and still very popular. But honestly, gerberas are just as charming, campanula can feel beautifully romantic, and choosing something a little different can sometimes make an even bigger impression.
So what about you?
What flowers would you choose to give — or love to receive?
